Outside Air Sensor

Outside Air Sensor Fault

Description of Fault

A CATALYST Outside Air Sensor Fault is issued when outside air temperature readings within the CATALYST system have abnormal readings either high (248° F) or low (–40° F). A reading of –40° F or 248° F indicates a wiring problem between the outside air sensor and the CATALYST controller.

A CATALYST Outside Air Sensor Fault will automatically reset when the sensor reads an appropriate temperature.

The outside air temperature sensor is installed in the outside air duct of the unit.

Possible Causes

A CATALYST Outside air Sensor Fault is typically caused by:

  • An open wire (–40° F).

  • A shorted wire (248° F).

Troubleshooting

eIQ Platform

  1. If the eIQ shows a outside air temperature of –40° F, this indicates an open wire between the outside air sensor and the CATALYST controller.

  2. If the eIQ shows a outside air temperature of 248° F, this indicates a shorted wire between the outside air sensor and the CATALYST controller.

  3. A technician will need to investigate in either scenario.

Site

  1. Investigate the wiring at the sensor.

  2. Investigate the connection between the orange 2C wire from the CATALYST controller into the outside air duct.
